Daniel Island Remodel

Daniel Island Remodel begun 8 days ago --

This client came to us after seeing a new home we built on the Isle of Palms. We kept in touch and months later they came to us ready to begin work on their kitchen, living room, and unfinished attic. So where to begin? That was their question. Here's how we began this Daniel Island Remodel.

The first thing we did was a walthrough of the home. We determined the scope of the project by speaking with the clients and taking note of every item they wanted to address. At that first meeting, we took field measurements to aid with our estimate. We had an estimate ready for the work within a week and then arranged a meeting to discuss. Once everyone was comfortable with the price and scope we entered into a contract. From this point on, any changes that the owner's want made are kept up with through Change Order Documentation. During the cabinet design phase, we agreed to bring in an interior architect. In this case, we hired the services of Swallowtail Architecture, whom proved to be a perfect fit. Working together, we produced a set of coffered ceiling drawings and kitchen layout. After several on site meetings with the owner and designer, we settled on the final design. The first ball to get rolling (the critical path item for this project), was the cabinetry. All the work is sequenced around the cabinetry production and install date. Start to finish, this project should last two months. Demo began in the kitchen on 1/14/13 and this picture was taken today on 1/24. You can see the coffered ceiling progress. Stay tuned as we will post more photos as this job progresses.

The second side of this job is upstairs in the unfinished attic (well, unfinished not for long). Here we are turning the space into a dance studio for one of their children. There are many intricacies involving this space but long story short, the room and stairwell leading to the attic will feel like they were originally built with the house when we get finished. Even the stairwell is being opened up and new balusters, handrail, treads, etc. installed to match and seamlessly tie in with the original construction. We decided to use a pre-finished brazilian cherry floor upstairs as a value engineered option for the client.
