Charleston Custom Home Builder House of Palms

Palm Blvd, Isle of Palms, SC

These long-distance clients have been spending summer vacations on the Isle of Palms for years when they decided to drop anchor on the island and build a summer gathering place for their friends and family to enjoy. They selected a beautiful second row property, close enough to feel the salty air and see the sparkling Atlantic Ocean . The original home was dated and had a chopped up, inefficient floor plan. It originally consisted of approximately 2,400 SF of heated space and 300 SF of open decks.

The clients entrusted Sea Island Builders for both the design and construction of their beautiful vacation home, utilizing Sea Island Builder's in-house architect, Anita King, as the lead architect. Through a careful design-build process, in addition to engineering, courtesy of Brian Wells Engineering, the original foundation was able to be saved and the team was able to join the new foundation to the reinforced existing foundation, saving the clients both time and money. The completed home now has approximately 3,900 SF with an additional 700 SQ of open deck and porch space.

The clients decided on a reverse floor plan to take full advantage of ocean views from the kitchen, main living area and porches. This custom home has white oak floors throughout and a soaring vaulted ceiling with painted beams in the main living space. A dedicated media room and large butler's pantry make this a dream home for entertaining a crowd. An impact-rated window and door package in a rich bronze finish give the home a unique look, while offering superior protection from the harsh coastal environment. Finally, a third floor entertaining space and open deck was added so the clients can enjoy a front row seat to the majestic sunrises and sunsets. This was a collaborative process between builder, client and designer and we are thrilled to have completed a dream home for our clients to enjoy for generations to come.
