Central Ave, Sullivan's Island, SC
This custom home tucked away on a quiet side street on picturesque Sullivan’s Island, SC serves as the perfect respite for a busy family of four. This classic black and white coastal 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath home features Hardie shake shingles built to withstand the harsh coastal environment. The home is comprised of 3,648 sq ft of heated space and perfectly blends posh and playful styles, thoughtfully combining elegant interior selections mixed with fun patterned tile and pops of bright color throughout. The clients played an integral role in the selection of fixtures and interior details, making this a truly collaborative project between architect, builder and client from start to finish.
The clients engaged Sea Island Builders to provide a single source project delivery method, thereby streamlining the design-build process. An expert project team was assembled which included Rachel Burton of Swallowtail Architecture as the primary project architect, Kelly Messier as the landscape architect and Steve Caskie as the structural engineer. In April 2016, Sea Island Builders began by providing pre-construction services. The early months were focused on performing due diligence, homework and gathering information, such as performing a proper survey, full zoning and site review as well as a conducting a geotechnical report to provide the clients with all necessary relevant information to formulate the best possible plan for their project. Early meetings included both the design and construction teams to maximize resources and fully explore all relevant avenues to ensure the best overall project plan for the clients’ new home.
The design and planning phase of the project took one year, which included obtaining Sullivan's Island Design Review Board approval for relief in several key areas of the project. Construction began in July of 2017 and we celebrated move-in day with the family in August of 2018.
